01500 – The Ideal of Kingship

It is this ideal of kingship that is manifested most perfectly in the life and mission of Jesus of Nazareth. …The ideal of kingship furnished the content for the messianic tradition, the tradition which was fulfilled in the life of Christ and which is the challenge to every Christian.

This is to say that there is continuity between the ideal of kingship and the life of every human being, especially those who follow Christ. Like the kings, every person is created to have dominion in the world, i.e., to be stewards of the world and builders of community within society. Like kings, each individual is created to be a mediator through whom God’s life is generated in the world.
