00028 – Worship: A Gift and An Experience

Worship is a gift, a gift from God that allows us to achieve our full potential as persons, and a gift to God that acknowledges God as Creator and Redeemer. Without gifts at its center, worship does not occur. God’s people gather for worship not so much to receive a blessing as to make an offering.

Worship is an experience, not a time for thinking about God but a time for encountering God; not a moment for contemplating praise, beauty, and holiness but for engaging and enjoying praise, beauty, and holiness.

Worship requires the involvement of all we are as persons—our senses as well as our minds. Unless the whole person is involved in worship, we deprive God of one of our gifts, and we risk leaving important dimensions of our lives untouched by God’s gift.
