01174 – Our Fear of the Steps to Change

Spiritual life is an ongoing experience of spiritual gestation, of giving birth to deeper dimensions of wholeness. We enter the spiritual womb many times. As the Bible says, “We…are being changed into his likeness from one degree of glory to another” (2 Cor. 3:18), in other words, birth by birth.

If we are to be soul makers, we must not reject the idea of the womb,” wrote my friend and author Djoharia Toor. “In the spiritual world, authentic life is born out of silence and waiting.”

But entering the darkness isn’t easy. Fear of that step is a common spiritual phobia. We fear the shadows on our own wall. We’re terrified of encountering things that go bump in the night of our soul.”
