03708 – Divine Diversity

God has two binary commands.

1) Love God

2) Love your neighbor as yourself.

Two commands that encompass and encapsulate all.

Not three, not five, not ten.

Two binary commands.

Yet, many Christians have added so much to these binary commands. Conditions, hate, politics, greed, cruelty, and violence. So much that these two defining characteristics of a Christian have become unrecognizable within many of them.

In fact, many Christians seemingly abandon their binary calling from God and, instead, choose to self-identify as a “Christian” who is also a judge, jury, condemner, marginalizer, abuser, and exploiter of others.

Yet, Jesus was clear, in Christ there is no greed, self-righteousness, privilege, violence, condemnation, nor inequity. Instead, to be a genuine follower of Jesus is to live a singular binary calling; 1) love God (who is Love) 2) love your neighbor as yourself.

In contrast, however, the Scripture insists, in Christ there is “neither male or female.” There is a very clear non-binary essence to how God created us. There is a beautiful spectrum to our humanity. Diversity is everywhere.

So, defining human life in binary terms as always either male or female is to actually deny the Scriptures and the essence of our divine identity in Christ. In fact, a transgender person is simply living out their divine design, where perhaps others have not the courage or faith to do so.

I find it interesting that many of the same people who claim to follow Jesus and yet live so outside of and in opposition to God’s binary calling upon their lives, are the very same ones who condemn transgender people for living within the divine diversity in which they are called to be faithful.

The religious always put rules where there are none, and deny the rules that inconveniently confront them.

There is only one binary aspect of God; God’s calling upon our lives to 1) love God 2) love our neighbor as ourselves.

Beyond that, all is diverse, cosmic, inclusive, and infinitely spectrumized..

Grace is brave. Be brave.
