We are not as time-bound as we might think: since prayer gives us access to a trans-temporal God, prayer lifts us out of our temporal existence and enables us to participate in God’s trans-temporal existence. Einstein’s remark that “the distinction between past, present, and future is only a stubbornly persistent illusion” is therefore truer than he may have realized.
